Objective:
A teacher at YISS is expected to demonstrate the quality of teaching and instruction, assessment and reporting that has been set as the standard for education at YISS. Teachers at YISS should model professionalism by consistently displaying high standards of preparation for learning and teaching and student management. An ability to build and maintain positive relationships with students, parents, and colleagues is an essential quality needed to be successful at YISS.

Professional Knowledge
-Content Knowledge: Effects student learning through mastery of the subject material by utilizing valid teaching techniques to achieve curriculum goals within the framework of the school’s philosophy. Understands the central concepts and strategies for the content they are responsible to teach and is able to create meaningful interactions between the content and their students.
-Instructional Design and Implementation: Follow prescribed scope and sequence. Integrate biblical principles and the Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum. Plans, organizes, implements, and evaluates using a variety of instructional strategies aligned with stated curricular goals and meeting the diverse needs of students; to include the use of technology, development of children’s critical thinking skills, and problem solving.
-Assessment: Assess the academic progress of students on a regular basis and provide reports as required. Identify the needs of students through diagnostic procedures in the subject areas where appropriate and relate instructional objectives to these needs. Understands and implements a variety of assessment strategies, both formative and summative, to ensure the continual academic, social, intellectual and spiritual development of the child.

General Responsibilities:
Objective:
To provide English language and/or academic support to middle school English Language Learner (ELL) students and to provide academic support to students in the Student Learning Services (SLS) program.
Duties and Responsibilities: 
-Identify and assess students who need English Language instruction. The ELL/SLS teacher will collaborate with the SLS Coordinatîor and Admissions Director to determine incoming students’ language needs via skype interviews and/or WIDA screening.
-Work with MS administration and counselor to schedule and provide ELL classes for students.
-Provide academic lab support for ELL and/or SLS students as needed. The ELL/SLS teacher will work with classroom teachers and SLS Coordinator to determine the greatest needs for academic support.
-Assist ELL and/or SLS students with study skills.
-Provide assistance and expertise to classroom teachers as they teach ELL and/or SLS students, and assist teachers with creating modified tests for beginning level ELL students and SLS students as needed.
-Maintain student records, including quarterly progress reports to parents
-Perform assigned supervisory duties and responsibilities (before school, lunch and after school, etc.)
-Integrate Biblical principles and a Christian philosophy of education throughout the curriculum.
-Participate in prescribed collaborative and personal professional development.
-Implement WIDA standards into curriculum maps (Atlas) as needed.
-Follow school policies, procedures, rules, regulations, guidelines and the provisions of the contract as outlined in the Faculty/Staff Handbook and other school publications.
-Maintain state/provincial/ACSI teaching credentials.
-Safeguard the interest and mission of the school and the NICS/Oasis organization.
-Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:
-Current ELL/Special Education Teaching certification
-Bachelor Degree in Education
-Prior experience in the area of English language teaching preferred
-Prior experience working with special needs children preferred
